Happy New Year to one and all, here’s hoping amongst the Government cutbacks and generally shaky economy, we can have a 2011 to remember.

What better way to start than come up for some predictions for the year ahead, some will be more likely than others but it will be interesting to see this time next year, just which ones came off.

Mobile, mobile, mobile!

To be fair, internet on mobile devices has been around for the last few years but as with all things, 2011 will be the year where everyone begins to understand just how important it is. We’re not just talking about mobile apps here but whether or not your main website is mobile device friendly.

35% of people with mobile devices in 2010 accessed the internet, that is up from 25% from 2009. With the improvements in technology and saturation of smart phones in the market, this will only increase in 2011.

Content is even more important.

We spent a lot of 2010 talking about how important fresh and relevant content is, in your website. With more and more content getting published online, it becomes increasingly important that your content is interesting and engaging to your user.

Potential customers are going to want to find the information they need, quickly and easily. How is the content on your current website working, is it incredibly dense? Does it not say enough? Are you trying to cram in as many keywords as possible?

These are all questions you need to be asking yourself and it’s certainly something we can help you with going forward.

Fluid website design.

With the increase in mobile devices and others such as the iPad. Good digital design will need to be able to adapt to the device it is being viewed on.

You’ll find that more and more agencies will start moving away from the safety of the 960 grid, moving towards using grids such as the fluid 1140 grid, which adapts the layout depending on the device being used.

The unknown.

Naturally there are going to be all manner of unknown and new technologies and ideas that come to the fore in 2011. That’s the beauty with the digital sector and technology in general, you just don’t know whats next round the corner!

We’d love to hear some of your predictions or expectations for 2011.
