We've had our own mobile friendly Pixelfish site for sometime now but in line with our new website, we've taken a fresh look at our own mobile site, making some tweaks and alterations. First and foremost, more and more people are using their smartphones and mobiles to access the web, which in turn is increasing the benefits of having one for your business.
There are some big differences between how we interact with a mobile device over a standard desktop as well as there being some quite obvious technical differences too. For a start quite often you find with the majority of smartphones around today, they use touch technology. This brings with it some unique challenges and considerations, small things such as there not being a hover state for buttons when compared to desktops. Theres also the not to minor fact that peoples fingers are larger and less accurate when compared to using a mouse and keyboard, this is why a lot of mobile apps and sites use clear and large buttons for ease of use.
The next big thing to notice is the lack of screen real estate you get compared to desktop computers, meaning you have to be increasingly efficient with how you position elements and information. I'm a firm believer in simple and clear design and this is never more true than when designing for a mobile device. If you can stick to that simple philosophy you won't go far wrong!
To view our mobile version, simply go to our web address - www.pixelfish.co.uk - from a mobile device. Our website automatically detects when a user is accessing the site from a mobile and then displays the correct version.

As you can see with our mobile version, we have retained several of the elements along with look and feel found on our standard site. It's important that with whatever you do, you achieve a consistency of brand across all of your marketing and media. Due to the natural constraints due to the size and format, designing for a mobile device requires even more clarity over the key messages and information you want people to know.
